BANGKOK TO HOST THE WORLD RUBY FORUM 2017

The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) will host “gem and jewelry experts from across the globe” at the World Ruby Forum 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

GIT and its partners will also co-host the World Jewelry Confederation: CIBJO Congress 2017, “the largest annual meeting for the world gem and jewelry industry”. The Congress will be held from November 2 to 7 at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, and feature around 350 domestic and international participants. The World Ruby Forum will take place at the same venue on November 4.

 

Duangkamol Jiambutr, Director of GIT, said in a press release that “the organization will develop and implement strategies to establish Thailand as the global gem and jewelry trading hub by 2021”.

 

According to GIT, Thailand exported $669.25 million of polished precious colored stone in 2016 – a 6.51% growth compared to the previous year. Thai exports of polished ruby totaled $275.29 million in 2016 – a 16.37% increase from the previous year.
