A step-cut, 5-carat fancy vivid blue VS2 diamond ring was sold for $13.8 million – $2.76 million per carat – at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale on October 3. The ring is decorated with baguette diamonds and mounted in 18 karat white gold.

The sale also featured a peacock vintage brooch by Cartier and “specially curated collection of exclusive necklaces by famed jewellers such as Van Cleef & Arpels”.

Just last week, a fancy pink diamond weighing 5.03 carats sold for £2,228,750 ($2,935,263) at Bonhams London Fine Jewellery sale– raking in $583,551 per carat. According to Bonhams, this is a new auction world record for a Fancy Pink diamond per carat. Another fancy vivid diamond – an 18.96-carat Fancy Vivid Pink descended from the Oppenheimer Family and dubbed “Pink Legacy” – is expected to do extremely well at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva on November 13. The diamond, according to Christie’s, could fetch between $30 to $50 million.
