CHERYL COLE: DIAMOND CELEBRITY OF THE WEEK

English singer, dancer and model Cheryl Cole has made headlines for more than just her position as a judge on the X Factor and her hit songs. Her famously volatile marriage to soccer player Ashley Cole yielded two diamond wedding rings that managed to become news themselves.

When Cole appeared on TV without her ring in 2009, rumors began to circulate. The absence of her £160,000 ring made people think something was wrong with her marriage. To counter the rumors, the celebrity posted a picture of herself on Twitter flaunting the ring. It was actually the second wedding ring given by her husband; it contained a square-cut diamond purchased in 2009. He bought it after he was caught cheating and wanted to make up for the infidelity. The first wedding ring that the soccer star bought for his wife was a £150,000 heart-shaped diamond when they got married in 2006.

For Cole’s 25th birthday, her husband had a special diamond-covered cake made. The handbag-shaped confection was decorated in edible jewels and ran the soccer player £5,000. Reportedly, Cole loved her cake.

While trying to save the marriage after more infidelities came to light, Cole promised to buy his wife the biggest diamond he could. However, the marriage fizzled and that diamond was never purchased.

Once the marriage was over, Cheryl Cole is said to have handed out piles of jewelry, including diamonds, to her friends and family in effort to purge remnants of Ashley from her life. One of the most impressive giveaways was a heart-shaped diamond pendant. She also doled out bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
For New Year’s 2011, Cheryl Cole’s friend Derek Hough bought her a £10,000 diamond bracelet. She received the cheer-up gift as the pair vacationed in South Africa.
Cole’s love of jewelry was solidified when she launched a line of capsule rings called Promise, for luxury jewelry company De Grisogono.
