Christie’s: Marie Antoinette’s Diamond Bracelets Shatter Auction Estimates

During its live Magnificent Jewels Auction in Geneva last week (November 9), Christie’s sold a pair of diamond bracelets that belonged to Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France, for $8.2 million – more than twice their high estimate. According to IDEX Online, the piece was sold to an anonymous phone bidder.

The 112 diamonds are set as a historic pair of bracelets bought in 1776, when Marie Antoinette had been Queen of France for two years – for 250,000 livres. According to Christie’s, “these extraordinary bracelets are the only example to include diamonds belonging to her […]”.

François Curiel, Chairman Christie’s Luxury, added: “These bracelets travelled through time to recount a most important era of French history, with its glamour, glory and drama.”
