Asda, Britain’s third biggest supermarket chain, is now selling an engagement ring for just £1, or ($1.35), IDEX Online reports.
According to the report, “the silver-colored plastic band is set with a fake diamond and comes with a free heart-shaped box, which may well be more valuable than the ring itself.”Asda, which has 650 stores across the country, urged buyers to “‘share some love with this ring”.
According to The Knot 2021 Jewelry & Engagement Study, total engagement ring spend in the US has remained steady in 2021 at $6,000, in-line with pre-pandemic spend in 2019 at $5,900.
