HARRY WINSTON RING SELLS FOR $47,000 PER CARAT, BEATS ESTIMATES

Christie’s latest Important Jewels auction in London (June 13) raked in $8.2 million, led by a Harry Winston emerald ring. According to Rough & Polished, the ring sold for $480,675 to an anonymous buyer.

 

This represents $47,000 per carat – “more than five times its high pre-sale estimate” according to Christie’s. The Harry Winston piece is a rectangular-cut, 10.23-carat Colombian emerald ring.

 

Another highlight sale was a cushion-shaped, 50.36-carat Sri Lankan sapphire pendant, which sold for $434,775. A Victorian “parure” (matching set of a diamond tiara, necklace and earrings) fetched $404,175. The auction sold 80% by lot and 90% by value.
