HKTDC: HONG KONG’S JEWELRY EXPORTS TO RISE 6% IN 2018

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has published its export index report. In it, it claims that Hong Kong’s sales of fine jewelry will grow in 2018 “mainly by items with fine designs and craftsmanship”, according to Rough & Polished. HKTDC expects that exports of jewelry increase by 6% in value and by 4% in volume in 2018.

Nicholas Kwan, HKTDC Director of Research, said the projected growth is attributed to “broad-based expansion in investment, trade and consumption, coupled with strengthening consumer and business confidence”. Among the challenges to growth, he cited “rising Sino-US trade tensions, the possibility of a faster-than-expected tightening of US monetary policy and escalating geopolitical tension”.

The report also claims that the confidence level of Hong Kong exporters “had improved substantially” in 2017, compared to 2016.
