Swiss watchmaker Hublot, a Branded Licensee for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, has issued the Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM – a limited edition smartwatch customized according to “a specific need expressed by FIFA”, according to a press release.
The Big Bang Referee 2018 is worn by the referees in the World Cup, and is limited to 2018 pieces. It is made of titanium, its bezel decorated with 6 H-shaped screws. According to Hublot, it resembles the “iconic Big Bang” watch and even “the display on its analogue mode dial could pass for the same aesthetic as that of the automatic models”. It has a 49-mm case and for the first time, its motor “is driven by technology connected to digital intelligence”.
The Big Bang Referee 2018 is based on tech “specially developed for the competition”: It announces matches 15 minutes before their kick-off, and displays the word GOAL instantly every time a goal is scored. During the match, the dial shows the match statistics including the score, number of cards, names of goal-scorers, player substitutions and match time.
