JENNIFER CONNELLY: DIAMOND CELEBRITY OF THE WEEK

New York native Jennifer Connelly started out strong, hit a few hiccups, then returned with a vengeance to the silver screen to secure her place as a Hollywood leading lady of worth.

After an early career as a child actor in the Jim Henson-George Lucas collaboration Labyrinth, she bombed in the teen-targeted Career Opportunities. But with daring performances in hard-hitting thinking man’s movies Dark City and Requiem For A Dream, she earned critical acclaim, and garnered an Oscar for her supporting role in 2002’s A Beautiful Mind.

When Connelly starred in the 2006 film Blood Diamonds, she became intimately acquainted with the human rights problems that have plagued the diamond industry. At public appearances to promote the film, Connelly wore polished diamond ear studs by Bvlgari, but only because the firm provided documentation satisfying her need to know that the precious gems were conflict-free.

She also praised Tiffany & Co. for supplying consumers with similar information as to their diamonds’ origins.
