OLYMPIC SWIMMER’S JEWELRY RAKES IN BIG DOLLARS AT AUCTION

Bonhams’ September Fine Jewelry sale in New York saw some items shine, such as two diamond fringe necklaces which once belonged to the Olympic gold medalist Katherine Domyan.

 

According to Bonhams, one such diamond necklace, featuring a total diamond weight of 86.30 carats, sold for $492,500. The second, with a total diamond weight of 66.20 carats, sold for $324,500. In addition, a 23.13-carat emerald-cut diamond ring by Harry Winston sold for $444,500, much exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $250,000 – 350,000. A pair of Harry Winston diamond earrings sold for $187,500. Both these items also belonged to Katherine Domyan.

 

Bonhams also reported that Art Deco jewelry performed well at the auction. One of the top lots in this category was a ruby and diamond bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels. Set with three rectangular shaped emerald-cut Burmese rubies and flanked by half-moon shaped diamonds, the bracelet was sold for $504,500.
