PGI INDIA: PLATINUM IMPORTS FOR JEWELLERY TO SOAR IN 2018

A top official in the Platinum Guild International (PGI) quoted in a report in Art of Jewellry claims that platinum imports to India for jewelry purposes will rise by 25% in 2018. Vaishali Banerjee, Managing Director of PGI in India, said that in 2017 India “imported about 7.2 ton of platinum for making jewelry ”.

 

Banerjee added that most platinum jewelry in India is bought for gifting purposes, while purchase of platinum jewelry for brides is also a growing trend. She said: “Even in Tier-2 cities in southern and western India platinum jewelry is in demand”.

 

According to the recent PGI report, platinum jewelry sales grew 25% in the the first quarter of 2018. In May, the 2017 Platinum Jewellery Business Review, published by Platinum Guild International (PGI), showed that platinum jewelry has experienced sales growth in the wedding segment for 2017 in China, Japan, the US and India.
