Survey: Jewelry Shoppers Still Prefer an In-Store Experience

A new survey by BriteCo’s, an American jewelry insurance agency, shows that “people still prefer to purchase high-ticket items in person at retail stores,” Instore Magazine reports.

Less than 1 in 5 respondents said that they would buy an engagement ring online without first seeing it in person. 81% of people purchased their ring in person at a retail store, 10% purchased from a jewelry store’s website and 9% purchased through an online-only jewelry website.

According to the survey, younger consumers “begin their jewelry shopping experience online, even for major items.” When asked respondents why they bought their engagement ring in person at a retail store, they listed trustworthiness (42%) as their top reason. Online purchasers cited ease of purchase (41%), price comparison (35%) and reviews from friends/family on the product they purchased (27%) as some of their top reasons.
