US: SALES OF JEWELRY AND WATCHES UP SHARPLY IN JUNE

Good news for jewelry retailers in America: According to preliminary data from the US Commerce Department and quoted by IDEX Online, sales of fine jewelry and fine watches rose 5.8% year-on-year in the US market in June 2017.

Sales totaled an estimated $6.5 billion. The sales displayed the best performance since January, when sales increased 6.7%. On a month to month basis, sales in June were up 4.8%.

As for the future, IDEX Online is optimistic, and forecasts a 4% rise in jewelry sales in 2017. According to the piece, “while chain jewelers have been reporting generally insipid sales for the most recent fiscal quarter ended March 2017, independent jewelers have generally been reporting stronger sales gains”.
