Tiffany & Co. managed to fool at least some of its followers on social media on April Fool’s with a pair of big, over the top, diamond-encrusted sneakers, according to IDEX Online.
While some immediately spotted the prank, others described the shoes – each sneaker set with 17,000 carats, with a total weight of 1,837 carats – as “absolutely obscene”, and “bet you don’t walk around with it more than 5 minutes.”
The Tiffany post read: “Introducing our latest creation: the Tiffany & Co. Facet. Ushering in a new category for the House, the sneaker is an homage to our vast diamond heritage. In an unparalleled display of craftsmanship, Tiffany’s in-house master artisans hand set over 17,000 scintillating diamonds totaling over 1,837 carats on each shoe. Price strictly upon request.”
About two months ago, Tiffany announced the (genuine) launch of Nike AF1s (Air Force 1) sneakers with a Tiffany blue swoosh for $400. According to IDEX Online, that’s “four times the price of a standard pair.”
