ISRAEL DIAMOND EXCHANGE CELEBRATES 80TH ANNIVERSARY

The Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) will celebrate its 80th anniversary today (Wednesday). The occasion will be marked in a special event at Heichal HaTarbut in Tel Aviv tonight. The event will be attended by several distinguished guests, among them Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon and Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman.

IDE President Yoram Dvash said in a statement: “80 years ago, the mandatory customs on diamond imports to Israel was abolished, and the first polished diamond factories were established. Since then, the Israel Diamond Exchange has become one of the most important diamond trading hubs in the world – a remarkable achievement for a small country, devoid of diamond sources”.

“The diamond industry is experiencing some rough times, but we are turning this crisis into an opportunity, making Ramat Gan a global center for tech development for the industry”, Dvash added, “On Wednesday, we will celebrate our anniversary and heritage, and the new beginnings we are creating today”.
