ALROSA UNCOVERS 62.75-CARAT DIAMOND AT JUBILEE

Russian mining giant Alrosa has uncovered a 62.75-carat diamond from the Jubilee kimberlite pipe in Yakutia, northeast Russia.

 

According to Art of Jewellery, the stone was found on June 20. It’s transparent with a light-yellowish tint, has an octahedron shape and measures 23 x 16 x 17 mm.

 

Jubilee pipe is famous for its large finds, and Alrosa has noted that a number of diamonds weighing between 50 and 138 carats have been recovered from the deposit in the most recent year. According to Rough & Polished, Jubilee reserves are estimated at 97 million carats of rough diamonds and mining at the pipe can be continued until 2030. The volume of diamond production for the first nine months of 2016 was 8.3 million carats.
