ALROSA SHOWS OFF “LARGEST PINK DIAMOND IN RUSSIA’S HISTORY”

Russian mining giant Alrosa has held a media event to exhibit a collection of large colored diamonds, including unique pink, bright yellow and pink purple gems. The “star of the show”, according to the miner, was a pink oval diamond weighing 14.83 carats – “the largest pink diamond in the history of Russia”.

The impressive pink was polished from a rough mined in 2017 in the Ebelyakh deposit in Yakutia. According to Yury Okoyemov, Deputy CEO of Alrosa, its size and clarity make it “one of the best to be discovered anywhere in the world in recent years”, adding: “I am sure that this diamond will be the most expensive in the history of Russia’s gem cutting industry”.

The largest stone in the exhibition was a deep yellow asscher cut diamond of 20.69 carats. It was cut from a rough yellow weighing 34.17 carats – the largest yellow diamond mined in Russia in 2017. The collection also includes a pink purple cushion-shaped diamond weighing 11.06 carats “and recognized by the GIA (the Gemological Institute of America) as the largest of its color in the world”.
