AMERICAN DESIGNER KATE SPADE, 55, FOUND DEAD AT HOME

Born in 1962, Kate Spade was an American fashion designer and businesswoman, owner of the popular brand Kate Spade New York. On June 5, 2018, she was found dead by a housekeeper in her Manhattan home. According to several sources, Spade committed suicide and left a note addressed to her daughter. She was 55 years old.

 

Spade had an illustrious career as a designer. In 1993, she and her husband Andy founded Kate Spade Handbags in New York, quickly expanding to create and sell clothing, jewelry, fragrances and more. In 1996, the first Kate Spade New York boutique was opened in SoHo. in 1999, 56% of Kate Spade New York was sold to Neiman Marcus Group. Seven years later, Spade sold the rest of her shares in the company. In 2016, she launched a new fashion brand called Frances Valentine. Spade also authored three books titled Manners, Occasions, and Style. In May 2017, Coach Inc. acquired Kate Spade for $2.4 billion.

 

Today, Kate Spade New York sells handbags, clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry and more. The Kate Spade jewelry collection includes affordable items, from a line of flamingo-shaped earrings, studs, rings and pendants to statement necklaces, bridal pieces and rose gold jewels.
