Antwerp’s Diamond Exports Jump 24% in January

Newly-released data from the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), quoted by IDEX Online, shows that Antwerp has exported 24% more rough diamonds by value in January 2022 than during the same month in 2021.

However, the number of carats dropped by more than 14% year-on-year, “reflecting high demand and a sharp increase in prices,” according to the report.

Rough exports totaled 6.6 million carats in January, with a total value of $953 million. Polished exports rose 21% year-on-year to $660 million, but volume was down 6% to 269,000 carats.
