The newly-appointed president and vice-president of the AWDC (Antwerp World Diamond Centre) board of directors are calling for additional verification points to ensure sanctions on Russian diamonds are effectively enforced, IDEX Online reports.
In a joint press release, Isidore (Isi) Morsel, CEO of Dali Diamonds and the new AWDC board president, and Ravi Bhansali, managing director of Rosy Blue and the new vice-president, emphasized the need for multiple rough diamond verification nodes.
Morsel and Bhansali stated: “We believe that this approach is both feasible and fair, promoting unity and shared responsibility among all stakeholders.” They argue that establishing verification nodes in diamond-producing countries is crucial for ensuring the diamond supply chain adheres to the highest ethical and sustainable trade standards. This strategy will also facilitate the integration of major African producing and polishing countries into the global diamond industry.
