The world’s biggest rough ruby stone – weighing 2.8 kg and 8,400 carats – could sell for up to $120 million, if its owners get what they’re going for. According to IDEX Online, the stone, known as the Burj Alhamal, went on display for the first time in Dubai, at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Center, last week.

The huge ruby was recovered in the village of Winza in central Tanzania. It was then bought by the mineral and metal asset management company SJ Gold & Diamond.

“This is the first time we are introducing our crown jewel of the collection.” Patrick Pilati, managing director of SJ Gold and Diamond, said, “unveiling this one-of-a-kind stone to the public for bidding, is a clear continuation of our dedication to showcasing the best of the best in the UAE.”
