SECOND-OLDEST BRITISH JEWELLER TO CLOSE DOWN AFTER 248 YEARS

Chester-based Lowe & Sons, considered to be the second-oldest independent jewelers in the England, will shut down after 248 years of trading in the city, according to several news reports. Richard Hogben from Lowe and Sons called the decision “a very difficult one”.

Starting April 14, at 10 am, the store will offer everything at half price – from engagement rings to diamond jewelry and colored stones.

Established in 1770, Lowe and Sons has a rich history, including the creation of the winner trophies for two of the most prestigious horse races in the country, the Chester Cup and the Chester Vase. The store has occupied its Bridge Street Row premises since 1804, and even has ties to the Titanic with family member Harold Lowe, who served as the 5th officer on-board the ill-fated ship.
