CHOW TAI FOOK AND GIA TO USE BLOCKCHAIN FOR DIAMOND REPORTS

Hong-kong based jeweler Chow Tai Fook and the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) have partnered to use blockchain technology in order to “deliver secure, digital diamond grading reports to consumers for the first time”, according to a press release.

The project, now in its pilot stage in selected Chow Tai Fook stores in Hong Kong, will ensure that clients of Chow Tai Fook’s diamond brand, T MARK, “will receive a permanent and immutable blockchain record of their diamond’s GIA grading information”.

Tom Moses, GIA executive VP, commented: “Securely linking T MARK customers to their diamond’s grading information through the use of blockchain is an important step to enhance consumer trust”. Kent Wong, Chow Tai Fook managing director, said that the move constituted “an important industry breakthrough and adds a new chapter to the customer experience”.

The initiative, developed with leading blockchain solutions provider Everledger and secured by the IBM Blockchain Platform, will expand to more Chow Tai Fook stores during 2018.
