CHRISTIE’S RAKES IN $18 MILLION FROM A SINGLE VIVID PINK DIAMOND

Christie’s auction house ended its 250th anniversary season with a bang: in its recent Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva, the auction house raked in $18.17 million for a fancy vivid pink pear-shaped diamond of 9.14 carats ($2 million per carat), Rough & Polished reports.

 

This marks the second highest price for a pink pear-shaped diamond sold at auction. The auction house concluded the sale with earnings of $97.1 million. Overall, Christie’s sold 35 lots for more than $1 million throughout 2016.

 

During the auction, Boehmer et Bassenge haute joaillerie house established a record price for a pair of earrings sold at auction – 17.56 million Swiss francs (approximately $17 million), and 8.32 million Swiss francs (approximately $8 million) for a D color diamond necklace.
