For Sale: An 1830 Diamond and Ruby Necklace “Fit for Royalty”

A necklace from 1830, part of a huge collection once part of the French Crown Jewels, is being offered for sale for $375,000, IDEX Online reports.

The necklace is offered in its original leather fitted case. According to MS Rau, antiques, jewelry and art sellers based in New Orleans, Louisiana, the “extraordinary necklace is truly fit for royalty.”

The historic necklace is set with diamonds and Burmese rubies and was part of a collection auctioned off by the Third Republic in 1875, “fearing a coup by royalist adversaries,” according to the report. Charles Tiffany, of Tiffany and Co., traveled to Paris for the auction and came back to New York with a third of the collection – propelling Tiffany and Co’s fortunes.
