Gahcho Kue diamond mine

TWO HUGE DIAMONDS RECOVERED FROM GAHCHO KUE

Mountain Province Diamonds announced it has recovered a 84.65-carat diamond and a 53.90-carat diamond from Canada’s Gahcho Kué mine – just two months after the mine became fully commercial. According to Gem Konnect, both stones were recovered in April, and will be available for sale in the company’s upcoming sales in Antwerp.

The 84.65-carat stone is the largest to be recovered from Gahcho Kué to date, while the 53.90-carat diamond is “the highest-quality exceptional stone recovered to date and is expected to achieve a record price at tender”, according to CEO Patrick Evans. In mid-February, Mountain Province Diamonds recovered a 67.87-carat diamond from Gahcho Kué.

Mountain Province Diamonds is a 49% participant with De Beers Canada in the Gahcho Kue mine. Gahcho Kue consists of a cluster of four diamondiferous kimberlites, three of which have a probable mineral reserve of 34.88 million tonnes grading 1.57 carats per tonne for total diamond content of 54.64 million carats.
