EMIRATES “DIAMOND” AIRPLANE DRIVES THE INTERNET CRAZY

Diamond-encrusted objects always create a buzz, and now it seems that they can make plenty of noise even when they’re fake: Earlier this week, Emirates Airlines drove people on the web crazy after it posted a photo on its Instagram account of a huge, “diamond-encrusted” Boeing 777, with the caption: “Presenting the Emirates ‘Bling’ 777. Image created by Sara Shakeel”.

The “Bling 777”, which is shown parked in a terminal with a beautiful sunset as the backdrop, fooled plenty of people online, and garnered tens of thousands of retweets and shares on social media platforms.

Shortly later, Emirates Airlines clarified that it had not covered one of its planes in diamonds and jewels, but rather posted an art piece created by crystal artist Sara Shakeel. Shakeel herself, a Pakistan native who regularly posts photoshopped images of objects covered in crystals and diamonds, explained in a post: “I truly and honestly made the diamond plane for the love of trip and the excitement! Never in a million years did i know it’ll end up in the news / tv/ trending on twitter all over the place!”.
