Fake Bling: US Customs Seize $8.7 million of Counterfeit Chinese Jewelry

Four large shipments of fake jewelry from China, “worth $8.7 million if genuine,” have been recently seized in Indianapolis and Cincinnati, according to IDEX Online.

Between December 24 to January 5, customs officials caught almost 16,700 items bearing trademarks of Bvlgari, Cartier, Coach, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Rolex, Tiffany, Tori Burch, Versace, Chanel, Dior, Pandora, Prada, and Tiffany. All the items, according to the report, were “destined for private residences in Laredo, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska and White Plains, New York State.”

LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, director of Chicago field operations, commented: “As consumers increasingly purchase from online or third-party vendors, our officers are at the frontline to guard against defrauders expecting to make money selling fake merchandise.”
