GEM DIAMONDS FINDS HIGH QUALITY 115-CARAT DIAMOND IN LETSENG

Gem Diamonds has announced the recovery of a high quality 115 carat, D colour Type IIa diamond from the Letšeng mine in Lesotho. According to the miner, it has recovered five other diamonds of over 100 carats so far in 2017 from Letšeng, “the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world”.

 

In June, Gem Diamonds announced the recovery of a high-quality 104.73 carat, D-colour Type IIa diamond and a 151.52 carat Type I yellow diamond from Letšeng. In May, Gem Diamonds recovered an exceptional 80.58 carat D-colour Type IIa diamond and a 98.42 carat D-colour Type IIa diamond. In April, it recovered a 114 carat D colour Type IIa diamond.

 

In its latest report for the half year to June 30, Gem Diamonds reports achieving an average price of $1,779 per carat for diamonds from Letšeng – a 20% jump on the second half of last year.

 

The Letšeng diamond mine is the world’s highest diamond mine at 3,100 meters above sea level, and is located in the Southern African kingdom of Lesotho. The mine is owned by Gem Diamonds Ltd. and the government of Lesotho.
