The Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair will be held as planned on February 25, despite the growing threat of the coronavirus. According to IDEX Online, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), which organizes the show, said it will put in place “stringent security measures […] to prevent the spread of the illness”.
These new measures include, among others, thermal scanners and thermal guns at all entrances and exits as well as nurses stationed at all checkpoints. Face masks will be provided to the show participants. Hand sanitizers will be provided throughout the venue, and the organizers promised they will spray disinfectant in the air conditioning system. The number of cleaning crews to disinfect well-trafficked areas will be increased, including stair railings, escalators and restrooms.
Somdet Susomboon, director general of DITP, said: “Amid the coronavirus outbreak, DITP has projected a much lower number of Chinese buyers. However, our Thai Trade Centers around the world have confirmed that most buyers, especially those from Europe and the United States, will be joining the show”.
