GIA Grades Biggest Ever Polished LGD

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has graded a 34.59-carat emerald-cut stone (G color, VS2 clarity) stone, “its biggest ever lab grown polished diamond,” according to IDEX Online.

Produced by India-based company Ethereal Green Diamond, the diamond is double the size of the previous record holder, a 16.41-carat princess-cut diamond made by Shanghai Zhengshi Technology in China, which the GIA graded in January 2022.

Tom Moses, GIA executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer., commented: “This more than two-fold increase in size within one year is an impressive technical achievement in CVD diamond growth. With such production improvements, correct identification and disclosure are critical to maintaining consumer trust.”

This 0.33 ct Fancy blue diamond was confirmed to be a composite of CVD synthetic type IIb diamond overgrowth on a natural type Ia substrate
