GIA TO OFFER PRACTICAL SEMINARS ABOUT SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) will offer one-day synthetic diamond seminars at GIA locations around the world. The first seminar will be held on June 19 in Hong Kong, according to Diamond World, and include “lectures with practical lab instruction” focusing on CVD, HPHT synthetic diamonds and diamond simulants.

According to the GIA, the seminars “will cover the most important topics related to diamond identification”, including natural and synthetic diamond formation, diamond defects and their analysis, hands-on sample examination of natural and synthetic diamonds and more.

Dr. Wuyi Wang, vice president of research and development at the GIA, commented: “[…] As the public becomes more aware of gem-quality synthetic diamonds – including melee sizes – it is imperative that the industry is prepared with training and expertise to address consumer concerns”.
