The IDEX Price Report for October 2023, published by IDEX Online, shows that Round diamonds suffered “many losses,” especially among 1.50-carat to 4.99-carat stones.
Among Rounds, there were few instances of price increases, with relatively stable prices in goods under 0.50-carats. Price declines were more common among higher-quality categories (I+ and VS2+). Occasional price increases were seen in the 5.00-cts to 5.99-cts and 0.18-cts to 0.29-cts ranges.
Among Fancy diamonds, there was reduced activity. Price increases predominated in the 2.00-carat to 5.99-carat category. Smaller sizes showed a roughly balanced mix of price rises and drops, while limited activity was observed in goods under 0.40-carats.
In October, Indian manufacturers urged to support a voluntary rough diamond purchase ban. Alrosa and Botswana’s Okavango diamond company suspended rough sales, impacting auctions, and De Beers reported a substantial decline in rough diamond sales, canceled online auctions.
