INDIA: DIAMOND EXPORTS UP 6% IN SEPTEMBER 2017

Exports of cut and polished diamonds from India went up 5.9% year-on-year in September, totaling $2.65 billion, according to a provisional data released by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and quoted by Rough & Polished.

 

Rough imports totaled $1.47 billion, down 18.4% year-on-year. In volume terms, 15.72 million carats of rough were imported during September 2017, up 8.9% year-on-year. Imports of cut and polished diamonds “dropped significantly” to $174.03 million in September 2017. Rough exports totaled $143.59 million, a decrease of 7.4% year-on-year.

 

During the fiscal year to date, exports of cut and polished diamonds was up 1.7% year-on-year, totaling $11.90 billion. Imports of rough diamonds during April- September 2017 rose to $9.16 billion, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year. In volume terms, imports rose 32.8% to 97.05 million carats.
