INDIA: DIAMOND AND JEWELRY EXPORTS WAY UP IN MAY

India’s gem and jewelry exports went up by 9.32% year-on-year in May, totaling $3.97 billion, according to Diamond World. Exports of cut and polished diamonds went up by 3.67% year-on-year to $2.05 billion.

 

India’s imports of rough diamonds totaled $1.86 billion in May – a rise of 22.5% in value. In volume, this number represents a 50% rise, totaling 15.1 million carats. Cut and polished diamond imports went down by 1.9% to $244.47 million.

 

Exports of coloured gemstones decreased by 7%, totaling $30.19 million. Silver jewelry exports rose to $746.6 million in May of this year, compared to $370 million in May 2016. Exports of gold jewelry decreased by 30% to $533.51 million.
