INDIA: HEAVY MONSOONS PARALYZE MUMBAI CITY

Heavy monsoon rains on Tuesday (August 29) have disrupted the life of millions in Mumbai, with trains services paralyzed, flooding and water-logged cars.

 

According to multiple news reports, some parts of the city received as much as 297.6mm of rainfall. Several flights at the Mumbai airport were diverted and many were delayed. Rainwater flooded the King Edward Memorial Hospital in central Mumbai. Many businesses asked employees to leave early, including the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), which according to a witness report closed early on Tuesday.

 

Floods in recent weeks have killed more than 1,000 people in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, and forced millions of people out of their homes.
