CANADA: MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING DIAMONDS FROM DIAVIK

The Yellowknife Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of stealing diamonds from the Diavik Diamond Mines in Canada.

The man, Samson Mkhitaryan of Yellowknife, is charged with two counts of theft over $5,000. The theft occurred in February, and the diamonds he is suspected of stealing have since been recovered.

Last year, Diavik Diamond Mines Inc., a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, announced the extension of the life of the Diavik Diamond Mine from 2023 to 2025, also predicting an increase in carat production and growth in future revenues and cash flows. The report stated that 46 million carats are expected to be recovered between 2017 and 2025, and that total revenue is forecast to total approximately $9 billion between 2017 and 2025.
