Diamond Prices Continued to Stabilize in December

Polished diamond prices showed signs of stabilization in December, driven by increased consumer demand during the holiday season, according to the IDEX price index published by IDEX Online. The report highlights that the improvement was most pronounced in the prices of larger diamonds, with round diamonds outperforming fancy diamonds, continuing the trend observed in November.

The positive trend was supported by a reduction in the supply of rough diamonds and a decline in manufacturing activity in India. However, China’s economy continues to face challenges, and lab-grown diamonds remain a significant competitor for consumer spending.

In the round diamond category, significant price increases were recorded for diamonds weighing 3.00 to 5.99 carats, similar to November. Prices for smaller diamonds stabilized compared to the declines seen in previous months. For diamonds weighing up to 0.49 carats, there were almost no changes in prices. Meanwhile, diamonds in the 0.50 to 2.99-carat range saw a mix of increases and decreases, with more activity focused on larger diamonds.

The fancy diamond category performed less well than round diamonds. Price increases were concentrated mainly in the larger diamond category, weighing 3.00 to 5.99 carats, while prices for smaller diamonds fluctuated in both directions.
