Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, signed a decree for a unique experiment: The marking of certain types of precious metals and precious stones, including rough and polished diamonds.
According to Rough & Polished, the experiment will be handled by a number of Russian government ministries and agencies from June 1 to November 1, 2018.
The goal of the experiment is to “assess the effectiveness of marking” in controlling “their turnover, confirm their authenticity and legal origin, as well as to determine technical capabilities for operating the integrated information system in this field”.
