Sotheby’s: Kim Kardashian Buys Princess Diana’s Diamond Pendant

Kim Kardashian has bought the late Princess Diana’s amethyst and diamond Attallah Cross for almost $200,000 at Sotheby’s London – $197,453, to be exact – managing to double Sotheby’s pre=sale estimate ($97,000 to $145,000).

A Sotheby’s spokesman said: “The amethyst cross was competed for by four bidders, in the last five minutes of Sotheby’s Royal and Noble sale, ultimately landing in the hands of a representative for Ms. Kardashian at more than double its pre-auction estimate.”

The famous piece, worn by Diana for the first time on October 27, 1987, when she attended a charity gala in London, was created circa 1920. It is set with square-cut amethyst and accented by circular-cut diamonds. In the 1980s, it was bought by Naim Attallah CBE from London-based Garrard, official jeweler to the royal family for 160 years until 2007.

According to IDEX Online, “it is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the Princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again.”
