SRI LANKA: MAN ARRESTED WITH 1 KG OF GOLD IN HIS BODY IN AIRPORT

A 45-year-old Sri Lankan man was arrested at the international airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for allegedly trying to smuggle to India 1 kilogram of gold hidden in his rectum, according to Rough & Polished.

The man was stopped by the authorities after he was “spotted walking suspiciously”, according to a customs official quoted in the piece.

The man was then “subjected to close examination”, and the gold was found. The contraband contained “gold biscuits, three pieces of gold, six gold jewellery articles and two silver-plated yellow gold jewellery articles, weighing about one kg”. This isn’t the first time this month the same method was used to try to smuggle gold out of the country. Last week, according to the piece, a Sri Lankan woman travelling to India “was arrested while trying to smuggle out 314.5 grams of gold pieces concealed in her rectum”.
