Vishal Upadhyay, a 15-year-old from Surat, has become the hero of the day: According to multiple news reports, the teen found a packet with 700-carat diamonds in them and returned it to its rightful owner. The packet is valued at Rs 40 lakh (about $62,000).
The teen found the packet while playing cricket on the street with his friend, and when the owner came frantically back to look for them, he promptly returned it to him.
Vishal was awarded for his honesty, and received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 (about $470) by the owner of the diamonds, and Rs 11,000 ($170) more by Surat Diamond Association (SDA) president Babu Gujarati.
