“The Ultimate” Diamond Coin Sells for a Record $1 Million

A platinum coin weighing a massive 1 kg and set with 6.5 carats of Argyle pink diamonds has been sold for $1,006,980, a new record for a coin offered at auction in Canada, IDEX Online reports. 

 

Dubbed “The Ultimate”, the rose gold-plated, platinum coin is set with 462 Fancy vivid and Fancy Intense Argyle pink diamonds. The piece was the highlight of the Royal Canadian Mint’s Opulence Collection, and was sold to an anonymous buyer after some “heated bidding” at Heffel Fine Art Auction House, according to the report.

 

The Opulence Collection includes 436 coins “crafted with a total of 46.7 carats of Argyle pinks.”
