Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels auction, held December 5, saw a ring made by Bulgari and set with an a 8.08-carat fancy vivid blue diamond go for $18,312,500, according to IDEX Online.
In an earlier report, Christie’s said that the diamond is a “miracle of nature” – a rare masterpiece that “may be counted among the finest blue diamonds ever to have come to market”. All in all, Christies sold 95% of the items by value, garnering $69,225,750.
More notable results were achieved for a diamond “tube” bracelet made by Suzanne Belperron, which sold for $852,500 – an auction record for the designer. In addition, Christie’s said that many Art Déco pieces by Cartier exceeded their estimates, and that “strong prices were achieved for the selection of emeralds and Kashmir sapphires”.
