On December 5, Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale in New York will offer a rare Fancy Vivid Blue diamond ring estimated at $13,000,000-$18,000,000. The 8.08 carat cushion-cut Fancy Vivid Blue diamond was mounted as a ring by Bulgari.
According to Christie’s, the diamond is a “miracle of nature” – a rare masterpiece that “may be counted among the finest blue diamonds ever to have come to market”.
According to Christie’s, blue diamonds are so rare that when a blue diamond ring designed by Graff jewellers came up at auction at Christie’s in New York last year it realized $12.5 million. At Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale on October 3 of this year, a step-cut, 5-carat fancy vivid blue VS2 diamond ring was sold for $13.8 million – $2.76 million per carat. The ring is decorated with baguette diamonds and mounted in 18 karat white gold.
