Vik and Rebecca, a newly engaged couple from England, got to enjoy Rebecca’s engagement ring for just 48 hours before losing it. According to IDEX Online, the couple were sailing on a jetty on the shores of Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, when Rebecca’s white gold and diamond ring slipped from her finger.
They came back to their hotel, where they were referred to Volunteer Angus Hosking, a freediver who knows the lake well. He immediately agreed to help, and dived to the lake “with just a snorkel and an underwater metal detector”. He found the missing ring after a mere 20-minute dive.
He later told BBC News: “Fortunately we had a rough idea of where it was. If it had been in the middle of the lake it wouldn’t have been like a needle in a haystack, but a needle in the world.”
