Williamson Pink Star Could Fetch $21 Million

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) unveiled the Williamson Pink Star – a 11.15 carat flawless pink diamond and one of the world’s largest internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamonds – at the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) last week (September 5).

The Williamson Pink Star will be put under the hammer at a single-lot auction in Sotheby’s Hong Kong in October, where it is expected to rake in over $21 million – a new “price per carat record given its incredible purity,” according to Art of Jewellery. After Dubai, the diamond will “travel” to Singapore and Taipei.

According to the GIA grading, quoted by Sotheby’s, “…The Williamson Pink Star diamond, is among the rarest of all gemstones…Attaining a Fancy Vivid color grade with pink diamonds in this size requires a very strong inherent bodycolor in the rough crystal. It is unusual for pink diamonds to occur with a strong depth of color or saturation in any size…In addition to its exceptional color, the clarity is Internally Flawless – a special combination. Examples such as this are some of the rarest gems ever discovered.”
