Dubai: Diamond Exchange Breaks Trade Record in H1 2022

The Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) has reported a $19.8 billion of trade in the first half of 2022 – a 24% increase year-on-year and a new record for the 2002-founded diamond exchange, IDEX Online reports.

During H1 2022, polished trade totaled $6.7 billion – a 52% rise year-on-year rise.

In February, the DDE claimed it had overtaken Antwerp as the top trading hub globally for rough diamonds, reporting trade totaling $22.8 billion in 2021.

“In the early 2000s, Dubai was neither a producer nor a known destination for diamonds,” said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman and chief executive officer, DMCC. It had, he said, since become “the largest, and fastest growing hub” in the world.
