Mastercard: US Black Friday Sales to Grow 15% Over Last Year

Mastercard SpendingPulseTM anticipates US retail sales (excluding automotive) to grow by more than 15% on Black Friday 2022, compared to Black Friday 2021. 

 

In a press release, Mastercard said it expects a Black Friday “shopping blitz” with key trends including the following: in-store retail sales anticipated to be up +18% year-over-year; department store are anticipated to be up nearly +25% year-over-year; restaurants are expected to experience +35% year-over-year growth; and travel companies are expected to experience double-digit growth.

 

Steve Sadove, senior advisor for Mastercard commented: “Expect Black Friday shopping to be in full force across channels this year. While retailers have already been heavily discounting this season, consumers and retailers are likely holding out for some special offers to land on the biggest promotional day of the year.”
