Gemfields sold 98 lots of rough rubies for a total of $66.8 million in its latest auction. The auction ran from November 21 to December 8 and achieved an average price of $154.84 per carat, Rough & Polished reports.
The rough rubies sold were recovered from Montepuez ruby mine in Mozambique. Montepuez’s total auction proceeds for 2022 were $166.7 million.
Gemfields also reported that emeralds from the Kagem mine in Zambia achieved “record sales” of $316 million in 2022 – a 32% increase over 2021.
